FAIRFIELD — A woman and her baby were taken to a Waterville hospital Tuesday after being bitten by a dog at their home on Ricker Street, according to police.

The woman, 25, whom police would not name, was bitten on the upper arm and her 10-month-old daughter, on the leg, saod police Officer Bill Beauleau.

“There’s no life-threatening injuries, but it was serious enough that they had to go to the hospital,” Beauleau said.

The dog, a pit bull terrier, belongs to the woman’s boyfriend, who also lives in the home but was not home at the time of the incident, according to Beauleau, who responded to the woman’s 2:49 p.m. call to police.

“She (the mother) was very upset and trying to get hold of the dog’s owner,” he said.

Beauleau said later that the dog’s owner, whom he also would not name because he had not been charged, was on his way to the hospital to meet the victims. He probably would not be charged Tuesday, according to Beauleau.

“But there are charges pending against the owner of the dog,” Beauleau said.

The woman was able to get the dog into a separate room of the home and close the door so it could not get out, Beauleau said.

The dog will be quarantined at the home for 10 days to make sure it does not have rabies, according to Beauleau.

Fairfield firefighters and a Delta Ambulance crew responded to the Ricker Street home and the pair were taken to Inland Hospital in Waterville by Delta, Beauleau said.
