A coalition of concerned citizens in Richmond is asking for help to resume a food pantry in our community.

The town lost its food pantry last year, but, unfortunately, the need still exists, with as many as 70 families in need in our community. These families include children and elderly citizens.

We need a commitment from the community to support this endeavor, whether it be financial, fundraising activities, volunteering to work at the food pantry or providing a more permanent facility in town.

The Dresden-Richmond United Methodist Church has offered its dining room for the food pantry until we find more suitable place large enough to accommodate the needs of our community.

An organizational meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Monday at the Grange Hall. People for whom helping others is a passion and who would like to be involved in our community have a great opportunity to get in on the ground level and make this vision a reality.

Richmond has always been a compassionate, caring community, and we know if we can work together with businesses, organizations, churches and individuals, we can bring back our food pantry and make a positive difference in people’s lives.
