AUGUSTA — New Maine revenue figures show state government ended fiscal 2011 nearly $50 million in the black.

The figures show the state finished the year that ended June 30 with revenues over budget by $48.9 million, or 1.7 percent over the projected figure.

Figures prepared for distribution to the Legislature’s Appropriations Committee on Wednesday also show a strong June finish to the fiscal year, with monthly revenues $33.4 million or 7.8 percent over budget.

State finance officials say that despite solid growth in 2011, state general fund revenues were still below their pre-recession peak reached in fiscal 2008.

The appropriations panel is being updated amid an atmosphere of economic uncertainty nationally, as Congress struggles to reach accord on legislation to raise the debt ceiling.
