AUGUSTA — State Sen. David Trahan says he’ll decide this week about his future role in the Legislature now that he’s been chosen to take over as executive director of the 14,000-member Sportsman’s Alliance of Maine.
The Waldoboro Republican sought the advice of the state ethics commission on holding on to or resigning from his Senate seat and avoiding a conflict of interest. The sportsman’s alliance, which represents interests of hunters and anglers, is one of the most active lobbying organizations in the State House
Trahan is to become the alliance’s third leader in less than a year. Following the resignation of longtime director George Smith, Tim Bell came up from Florida for a short-lived stint as SAM head. He was succeeded by Maine’s former secretary of state Matt Dunlap.
