MANCHESTER — Ryan Gay won holes 15 and 16 to clinch a 3 and 2 win over Matt Greenleaf in the Maine State Golf Association’s Match Play Invitational at the Augusta Country Club on Wednesday.
Gay, who won his second consecutive Maine Amateur title last month, beat Ricky Jones 4 and 3 in the morning’s semifinal match. Greenleaf won his semifinal match with Brian Bilodeau, 1-up, in 19 holes.
Gay was 1-up on Greenleaf after 19 holes, and went 2-up with birdie on hole 11. Greenleaf gained the hole back with a win on 14, but Gay made par on 15 and 16 to clinch the match.
