Since July 1, state employees have been working without a contract. In spite of this fact, thousands of us go to work every day focused on providing Maine with quality services because we care about people and we care about the state of Maine.

At the Maine Center of Disease Control, in the Environmental & Occupational Health Programs office where I work, we strive to protect children from the devastating and preventable damage of lead dust poisoning. We teach Mainers how to avoid carbon monoxide poisoning. We help people understand results of their water tests that indicate a high level of arsenic, fluoride or radon.

State employees recognize the economic difficulties we all face, and so we proposed a two-year cost-saving contract. We are hard-working, loyal and reasonable, and it’s time for the LePage administration to settle the contract, send the New York lawyer home, and focus on creating jobs for the people of our state.
