Mainers Against A Rotten Deal announced today that it has formed a political action committee and is actively opposing two state ballot questions that would allow new gaming operations in Maine.
The group believes that proposals for a casino in Lewistion and racinos in Biddeford and Calias are vulnerable to defeat on Election Day, said Chris O’Neil, a spokesman for Mainers Against A Rotten Deal.
Wednesday is the next reporting deadline for political action committees that are spending or raising money to promote Nov. 8 ballot questions.
The groups have until 11:59 p.m. to file reports with the state ethics commission.
Two of the questions would expand gaming operation.
Question 2 would allow a slot machine facility at a harness racing track in Biddeford or another community within 25 miles of Scarborough Downs, subject to local approval, and at a harness racing track in Washington County.
Question 3 would allow a casino with table games and slot machines in Lewiston.
