BREWER — Heather Leet and Chelsea Begin combined on a goal with 7:55 left in the game as fifth-ranked Cony knocked off No. 4 Brewer, 1-0, in an Eastern A field hockey quarterfinal Wednesday afternoon.
The goal came on a penalty corner. Begin took a straight-on shot, and Leet tipped it off the right post and into the cage.
Cony (8-6-1) outshot Brewer, 25-8. Kevie Rodrigue made four saves for the Rams, while Casey White had 18 for Brewer (10-4-1). The Witches had beaten Cony, 2-0 on opening day of the regular season.
“We came out and we knew exactly what to look for as far as playing Brewer,” Cony assistant coach Brittany O’Brien said. “We knew they had a lot of defensive pressure in the circle. We had our midfield up a little more than usual, and we even moved our backs up a little to increase that offensive pressure.”
