HARTFORD, Conn. — Connecticut lawmakers are returning to the state Capitol to vote on two bills that are supposed to help create jobs and kick-start the state’s bio-sciences industry.
Bipartisan support is expected for a wide-ranging jobs bill calling for spending $516 million over two years on initiatives such as financial assistance for small businesses, more training in manufacturing technology professions, help for entrepreneurs and funding to repair bridges.
The bills are up for a vote during a special session of the General Assembly scheduled for today.
Bipartisan support is not expected for the bill that calls for $291 million to help build a new genetic research laboratory at the University of Connecticut in Farmington, in conjunction with The Jackson Laboratory of Maine. Some Republicans have questioned the number of projected new jobs.
