Your editorial on Oct. 19, “Radical groups fill void of occupy protests lack of focus, goals,” suggests a narrow understanding of the objectives of the Occupy participants, particularly here in Portland and Augusta.

After several visits to both locations, I am convinced that all the identified goals of Occupy Augusta and Portland can be expressed under one banner: “Living Justice.”

A distributing justice that manifests into a morality of equality seldom practiced in America.

The Living Justice agenda is a 2011 extension of challenges fought and won (at least winning) for women’s rights, civil rights and worker’s rights.

Occupiers identify with these continuing battles and add the current economic inequalities and immoral and illegal wars to the list.

They are not being, and will not be, “undergirded by better organized groups.”

In addition, I predict the Maine occupiers will not resort to violence. Their goals may not be realized in one year or perhaps not in one generation, but occupiers have opened the door for a living justice, a door never to be closed.
