Do Maine people care about their vote?
The law as passed on same-day voter registration is a much needed step to make our voter registration system secure. This whole issue is not just about fraud, which is what the repeal people want to make it.
The bill as passed is intended to make voter registration more secure, give clerks some time to verify the information. As it stands right now we need zero ID to register, clerks ask for ID and accept any rent receipts, power bills, etc. but by law we don’t have to show anything.
Charles Summers came to our group and went over the report in detail. The way it stands now our votes may or may not count on Election Day. The bad ones that slip through cancel out the real votes.
According to the report, as many as 13,000 invalid votes may be getting counted on each Election Day. This is not a party issue, it’s a voter issue. Do you want your vote to count? The Democrats group up and holler where is the fraud! They seem so obsessed with statements about fraud they overlook the real issue of secure voter registration.
Most of the comments on the opinion page I read are un-informed, and I would estimate 90 percent haven’t read the bill as passed or the intent of the bill, and I know they haven’t read the Summers report. If they had they couldn’t make the statements they make.
Please publish the full Summers report and at the very least publish the intent and purpose of the bill before the November vote, so voters can be informed with the real facts, not party-line bashing and finger pointing.
