I am a cab driver in Waterville.
Cab drivers have to deal with insults from customers, emotional and verbal abuse from customers, physical abuse from customers, road rage, bullying, theft, intoxicated individuals (whether it be alcohol or drugs) on a daily basis.
Although we provide a service to the people of Waterville and the surrounding areas for a reasonable price, the drivers continue to deal with these issues. As a cab driver, I do not make minimum wage — not even close.
At the end of the week, after all my tips have been counted and taxes have been paid, I’m lucky if I take home $100 a week.
Now, this is after working a five-day schedule at 12 hours per shift. Do the math and you should get this figure — $1.67 per hour. Yup! That’s right!
So, to those customers who are rude and belligerent, abusive, steal from us, bully us, vomit on us, assault us — let me make one thing clear: You are not the only ones who have issues!
We are not limo drivers. We are not counselors. We are not baby-sitters. We are not referees. Show us some respect because we work hard and make very little money.
If you can’t respect us, then walk.
