A new generation of political leaders is emerging in Augusta, and we will all be better for it.

In particular, I am pleased that Corey Vose has stepped forward to run for City Council.

Of all the appointments I made while I was Augusta’s mayor, I am perhaps most proud of nominating Corey to the Planning Board. Within only a couple of years, he had so impressed his colleagues he was appointed chairman — the youngest in Augusta’s history, I would suspect.

At a time when he has every reason to defer public service because of his young family, Corey (and his wife, Katie, who serves on the School Board), have decided to provide an example to their kids and the rest of us by getting involved.

How lucky we are to have him willing to serve. I hope you will join me in giving him a well-deserved vote.
