Is the new Thorndike Town Office building going to cost more than the selectmen thought? How can that be?

At the Thorndike Town Meeting, the citizens were persuaded to allocate $250,000 to start the process of securing grants for the new Town Office — two versions of the plans were on display. No vote approving a building plan occurred that day.

At a follow-up meeting (with 25-35 citizens present) a selectman said he would bring estimates for the two plans, or fixing the old building, to a future meeting. Attendees don’t remember a decision made on a plan.

No other public meetings were held, but apparently private meetings were. Subsequently, visitors to Town Hall were told that the larger model sitting on the counter was voted on at town meeting.

In August, an email is circulated asking about the color of siding. Any detailed queries were rebuffed.

Now we are being told that if we care about the town, we will donate money to the Town Office project.

One doesn’t have to be a lifelong resident to know there is monkey business going on in Thorndike.
