SOUTH PORTLAND — Sales of existing single-family homes are up in Maine for the fifth straight month.

The Maine Association of Realtors says home sales jumped by nearly 10 percent in November over a year ago. For the month, real estate agents sold 856 homes, up from 781 in November 2010.

The median sales price of those home fell slightly, from $170,000 to $169,000 — a decline of less than 1 percent.

For the three-month period from September through November, the association says sales of existing homes went up by 8 percent while the median sales price fell by 3 percent.

During that stretch, Knox County had the highest median sales price, at $223,500.
