Maine State Treasurer Bruce Poliquin sent me a fundraising letter this week reporting that a handful of state legislators — including mine, Rep. Phil Curtis of Norridgewock, and Rep. Larry Dunphy of Embden — have come out in support of his campaign for U.S. Senate.
How state legislators from the poorest county in Maine could think Poliquin will be good for their constituents is astounding.
Poliquin worked for the 1 percent in Connecticut and New York for years before coming to represent big money interests in Maine. When he was running for governor, I attended his town hall meeting in Skowhegan, where his expensive clothes and shoes stood out like a sore thumb.
Once I read his resume it was clear: Poliquin represents the very people who have been sending jobs overseas for years, gutting the Maine economy.
How can Curtis and Dunphy think that Poliquin’s replacement of Olympia Snowe would be good for their constituents? Are they really so naive? Or maybe they, too, have larger political ambitions and are in need of big campaign contributions in the future.
