When a devoted employee’s hard work, treating the public with respect and being true to one’s career responsibilities, become so disregarded by her employer, in this case, the U.S. Postal Service?
Our former postmaster, Rhonda Clukey, served her small community for 37 years (25 as postmaster) before losing her battle to cancer.
Wouldn’t it be nice to have her photo hanging in our post office with a little plaque showing the number of years she dedicated to us? Wouldn’t it be nice if we could show our respect in some small way? Oops. Sorry that can’t happen.
It can’t happen because there’s a federal rule stating photos of past postmasters cannot hang in the retail section of a post office. Note: I said “retail section.”
I was told by the North East Postal Service Division that Clukey’s photo cannot be hung in the lobby and/or the entryway either (both of which are not actual retail sections of our post office). In the retail section, it would be considered “clutter” along with posters and other materials.
The community’s respect for Clukey will never be forgotten. We’ll always remember the many personal and professional ways that she touched our lives. We may not be allowed to show our gratitude with a public photo, however, we’ll always appreciate that special time in our lives when she was our postmaster and friend.
