Yes, it actually is an issue. To suggest that any stay-at-home mother never worked a day in her life is a slap in the face to my, and your, mother. And probably to about 90 percent of mothers out there, at least at some point in their lives.

It is more about roles than economy. In even the worst Third World economies, mothers are the at-home nurturers. Conservatives get that mothers are especially valuable in the home. Not that they are not valuable in the work force but, the best they can be or should be is equal to a man there. Not so at home, where they will always be No. 1. All real men get that, even appreciate that.

Between pregnancy, childbearing, recovery, nursing, etc., there are natural reasons for women to be home to nurture and rear. Today more and more woman do work, and if they must or want to, fine. No one should underappreciate them.

Ideally, every family, should have a dedicated, hard-working husband and father, and a kind, loving and caring mother at home, to teach, educate and nurture the children The ideal is not always possible, or chosen, so the thoughtless disparage it.

A liberal would never appreciate a stay-at-home mother, but would defend a reversed role, such as a stay-at-home father or gay couple.

Yes, the destruction of the core family and roles such as fatherhood, motherhood or husband and wife is an issue. Yes, it is actually an issue to suggest a stay-at-home mother never worked a day in her life. Don’t defend it. No changing the subject. It was wrong.
