I just read the story in the April 27 paper, “Dilemma in Augusta: Restore or tear down.”

Why do elected officials and historical people have such a hard time tearing down old, dilapidated buildings in Augusta? At an extraordinary expense to taxpayers, they tried to save the old YMCA building, and are still trying to save the old theater downtown, the old high school and ,to no avail, a few houses around town to make room for more modern buildings. All that money and time trying to save buildings that get torn down anyway.

They should invest that time and money trying to attract businesses into the city.

If our ancestors had this same mentality, we’d still be living in tepees and log cabins.
