I applaud Gov. Paul LePage for his stance on domestic violence, but I would like to raise two points regarding the article in the May 3 issue of the newspaper.
If men are the aggressors in 80 percent of all cases of domestic violence and “it is up to men to stop domestic violence,” then what are we supposed to do about the other 20 percent?
Do we close are eyes to one out of every five cases of domestic violence in which the woman is the aggressor?
Perhaps what LePage is saying is that men are responsible for their own abuse. It would be an anathema for that to be said about women yet it seems acceptable to say it about men.
LePage is naive to believe that he is immune from the negative effects of his experiences of domestic violence.
Physical violence is an extreme and sometimes lethal form of violence. A much more common and more socially acceptable form of violence is bullying. One could say that violence is but one form of bullying. From what I have seen, governor has become a master at the art of bullying.
