PORTLAND — U.S. Rep. Chellie Pingree, D-Maine, has out-raised her top opponent, Republican Jonanthan Courtney, by a four-to-one margin during the most recent campaign finance period.
The other GOP candidate in Maine’s 1st Congressional District race, Patrick Calder, a merchant mariner from Portland, had not filed his report as of this afternoon. He declined a request to provide any of his campaign numbers until they were public.
Pingree’s campaign raised $84,764 from April 1 through May 23, according to campaign spokeswoman Kate Simmons. Pingree spent $48,275 during that time period and had a total of $210,158 cash on hand as of May 23.
Courtney, whose campaign finance report was filed with the Federal Election Commission, raised $21,621 and spent $5,736. His campaign had $16,645 cash on hand.
Pingree is married to financier S. Donald Sussman, a contributor to Democratic and charitable causes and the majority share owner of MaineToday Media, which owns The Portland Press Herald/Maine Sunday Telegram, the Kennebec Journal in Augusta, the Morning Sentinel in Waterville and other media outlets in Maine.
