Last year, I became acquainted with Colleen Lachowicz. Over time, we have developed a strong friendship, and she has taught me a lot about politics and the importance of civic engagement.

Until I met her, I considered myself a pretty staunch independent. I felt neither party suited me much of the time, and certainly not enough to become a member.

Because of her, that has changed. I now am proud to call myself a member of the Democratic Party. Since meeting her, I have participated in the Democratic caucus process, became a delegate to the state convention, and became a member of the Kennebec County Democrats.

I tell this story because Colleen is running to serve in our Legislature, Senate District 25. If she could bring me into the Democratic Party fold after more than 20 years of being independent, then she can find a way to work with anyone.
