DIXFIELD — Ben Holmes pitched a two-hit shutout, facing four batters over the minimum, to lead the Dirigo baseball team to a 3-0 win over Hall-Dale in a Western Maine Class C semifinal game Saturday afternoon.

Holmes allowed singles to Matt Plourde and Kurt Thiele while walking one and striking out two.

“He had a better fastball at our place,” Hall-Dale coach Tim Johnson said. “But today he had a good breaking ball and he commanded the strike zone with it.”

Ben Crocker pitched well for Hall-Dale, allowing six hits while walking two and striking out three. The Cougars scored their three runs in the fifth on a two-run single by Caleb Turner and a passed ball.

Top-seeded Dirigo plays Telstar in the regional final Tuesday while No. 4 Hall-Dale finished 13-5.

Telstar 11, Winthrop 0, 5 innings: Corey Howard went 2 for 3 with a home run and three RBIs to lead the third-seeded Rebels in a Western C semifinal game in Bethel.

Howard hit a two-run home run in a seven-run third inning that put the game away. Kyle Peterson and Devin Vail each had two hits for the Rebels (13-3).

No. 7 Winthrop finished 9-8.

Eastern B girls lacrosse

Freeport 16, Gardiner 4: Jess Hench scored five goals and Alexandra Mitch scored four to lead the top-seeded Flyers past No. 5 Gardiner in an Eastern Maine Class B semifinal.

Beth Ann Knighton added three goals for the Freeport, while Julie Deordan scored two.

Ally Day scored twice for the Tigers while Rikki Bryant and Julie Wainwright had a goal apiece.

Molly Lane made to saves for Freeport (7-6) which advances to the regional final while Maddie Cutler made 12 saves for Gardiner (2-12).

Eastern A girls lacrosse

Cheverus 10, Messalonskee 9: The Eagles played catch-up the entire game but never got the game-tying goal in losing the Eastern Maine Class A semifinal. Messalonskee trailed 10-7 before scoring a pair of goals, then hit the post with a potential game-tyer.

Kristy Bernatchez scored seven goals for the Eagles while Sara Grenier scored the other two. Sam Briggs and Sid Gagne each had an assist. Sadie Lyons led Cheverus with four goals while Meredith Willard scored three and Alex Logan two.

Izzy Skinner made eight saves for No. 7 Messalonskee which finishes at 8-6. No. Cheverus (9-5) advances to the regional final against No. 1 Brunswick.
