NORTH BERGEN, N.J. — Police say several people were treated for heat exhaustion today at the North Bergen High School graduation ceremony.
Capt. Gerald Sanzari of the North Bergen Police Department says it’s unclear how many were overcome at the ceremony this morning.
Sanzari says several ambulances were on standby at the event and several more responded to treat people. Some were taken to a nearby hospital.
School officials say about 5,000 people attended the ceremony for the 640 graduates. The high school has an enrollment of roughly 2,800.
Officials say the ceremony was held outside to allow more people to attend.
