ACADIA NATIONAL PARK — An Acadia National Park official says a man and woman required hospitalization after they were struck by lightning while sleeping in a tent at the park in eastern Maine.
Park Ranger Supervisor Richard Rechholtz said a storm on Friday night produced lightning that struck a vehicle at the Blackwoods Campground, and the electrical current somehow transferred to the tent where the couple of sleeping.
Rechholtz told the Bangor Daily News the man felt a burning in his feet. He said the man had his arm around the woman, allowing the current to then travel from him to her.
The couple was transported to an area hospital, but their injuries were not thought to be serious. Their names were not released.
