WATERVILLE — A $30,000 reward for information on Ayla Reynolds expired last night without creating any last-minute breaks in the case, according to police.

“There have been no new developments,” Department of Public Safety Spokesman Steve McCausland said Saturday.

The toddler’s disappearance from her Violette Avenue home was reported by her father, Justin DiPietro, on Dec. 17, when Ayla was 20 months old. Ayla’s blood was found by investigators in the basement of her home.

DiPietro maintains that Ayla was abducted from the home, but police say that it was not a kidnapping.

The reward, which was posted by a group of local businesses and individuals in December, officially expired late last night at midnight.

The reward’s sponsors announced during a press conference on May 31that they would withdraw the money if no one stepped forward by the end of June.

At that time, McCausland said that investigators believe Ayla is likely dead. No suspects have been named.

McCausland said that the police investigation will proceed independently of the reward. Those with information about the case are asked to call the Maine State Police at 624-7076.
