WASHINGTON — Long known for her involvement in high-profile policy matters, U.S. Sen. Olympia Snowe had an opportunity to try out a different role Thursday, behind a camera.
Snowe, R-Maine, filmed a segment with comedian Amy Poehler for an upcoming episode of NBC’s “Parks and Recreation.”
She was joined by two other Capitol Hill veterans, Republican Sen. John McCain of Arizona and Democratic Sen. Barbara Boxer of California. All three made cameo appearances as themselves.
Snowe apparently had two lines in the shoot.
The segment was filmed at the Hay Adams, an exclusive hotel across from the White House where room rates start at about $400 a night and suite packages can run $3,700 or more.
According to a release from NBC, the episode centers on a trip that Poehler — the show’s star, playing the always-bumbling Leslie Knope — makes to Washington, D.C., from her small town in Indiana.
Co-star Adam Scott (playing Ben Wyatt) then “invites her to a cocktail party attended by several high-powered politicians — including Senators Boxer, McCain and Snowe.”
On Thursday afternoon, Snowe said in a Twitter message that she enjoyed speaking with Boxer “and the hilarious Amy Poehler after shooting a scene” for “Parks and Recreation.”
The episode is scheduled to air Sept. 27, according to NBC.
