Winslow man pepper-sprayed during arrest Tuesday
WINSLOW — Police used pepper spray to subdue a man Tuesday after he allegedly resisted arrest.
Police were called to a home on Beck Street at 3 p.m. to investigate a report of an argument, Chief Jeffrey Fenlason said. When police arrived, they found a man arguing with his mother, in violation of a protection order.
When police tried to handcuff John E. Labbe, 45, he became combative and was sprayed, Fenlason said. Afterward, Labbe spat at police after he was seated in a cruiser.
One officer’s eyes were flushed after being exposed to the pepper spray, but there were no other injuries to police, Fenlason said.
Labbe was booked on four charges — assault, refusing to submit to arrest, refusing to sign a summons and violating a protection order — and taken to the Kennebec County jail. He will make his first court appearance March 19 at Waterville District Court.
