Running back Danny Woodhead is the latest player to leave the New England Patriots after signing a two-year contract with the San Diego Chargers on Friday, according to NFL.com.
Also on Friday, according to NFL.com, the Patriots reached a four-year deal with cornerback Kyle Arrington, who started 12 games as a rookie last season. The Pats also signed receiver Donald Jones from the Buffalo Bills to a three-year deal.
Woodhead served as a third-down back for New England and last season had 76 carries for 301 yards and four touchdowns to go with plus 40 receptions for 446 yards and three touchdowns. Woodhead, 28, was signed by the Patriots in September 2010 after he was cut by the New York Jets.
On Thursday, the Patriots signed Leon Washington, who has a similar skill set to Woodhead. The Patriots also have running backs Stevan Ridley, Shane Vereen and Brandon Bolden, so Woodhead’s role would have been diminished.
Last season, Jones had 43 catches for 443 yards and four touchdowns – all career highs – as one of Buffalo’s secondary targets.
