PORTLAND — The family and friends of a lobsterman and local musician, who was last heard from Friday, are reaching out to the public to help them locate the 37-year-old Portland resident.
Melissa Pottle said her roommate, Michael Allen, posted a worrisome message on his Facebook page Friday morning – the last time anyone has seen or heard from Allen.
Pottle met with a Portland police officer, who took a missing person’s report Monday night, according to Assistant Police Chief Vern Malloch.
“His friends and family are concerned about his well-being,” Malloch confirmed, after speaking with Pottle.
As procedure, Malloch said police must take a missing persons report before deciding whether to move forward with an investigation.
In the meantime, Allen’s acquaintances are using Facebook to alert the public. Allen plays guitar in a local band called Doubting Gravity and has been working on a Long Island-based lobster boat for the past two months.
Pottle said she is concerned about Allen, who she has known for more than a decade.
She said Allen did not take any personal belongings or money with him and left the two vehicles he owns at his Forest Avenue home. Pottle used to date Allen and the two have lived together for several years.
“All of us who know Michael feel he needs to be contacted. Something is wrong,” she said.
