WATERVILLE — The manager of an oil change business was charged with reckless conduct Thursday night for allegedly pulling out a loaded handgun and pointing at two employees, police said.
George Spencer, 43, of 1380 Hinckley Road, Clinton, was summoned on a charge of class C felony reckless conduct after one of the employees of Prompto 10-Minute Oil Change at 118 Kennedy Memorial Drive reported the incident, Deputy police Chief Charles Rumsey said Friday.
The charge carries up to five years in prison and a fine of up to $5,000. Rumsey said Spencer has a permit to carry a concealed weapon, issued through the town of Clinton.
“One of the employees was very scared by the fact that he was displaying a firearm and reported it to us,” Rumsey said.
Asked why Spencer pulled a gun on his employees, Rumsey said: “I want to say he was fooling around.”
The incident happened at around 5 p.m. Tuesday and Spencer voluntarily turned himself in at the police station around 6:30 p.m., Rumsey said.
Spencer was not at Prompto Friday afternoon, according to a man who answered the phone there, and Spencer did not immediately return a message seeking comment.
He is scheduled to appear in Kennebec County Superior Court in Augusta on April 15, Rumsey said.
