United Way of Mid-Maine recently hosted two walk-a-thons, one in Waterville starting at the Alfond Youth Center on North Street and one in Skowhegan starting at the New Balance store on Walnut Street. Nearly 100 people participated with teams of walkers from Colby, Skowhegan Savings Bank, Kennebec Behavioral Health, Waterville Senior High, Messalonskee High School, KVCAP, Sunrise Rotary and more joined in the walk and help raise funds for the Youth Homelessness Initiative. UWMM partners with local school districts across the service area (Somerset, northern Kennebec and western Waldo counties) to reach youth who are homeless or at risk for homelessness. Through the schools’ homeless liaisons, UWMM helps to meet these students’ basic needs to assure that they stay in school. One hundred percent of the funds raised will go to the Youth Homelessness Initiative.
