WILKES-BARRE, Pa. — Bobby Morton of Jefferson, Maine, received a doctor of nursing practice degree from Wilkes University.

Hillman graduates from Lyndon State

LYNDONVILLE, Vt. — Emilie Hillman of Gardiner, Maine, has graduated from Lyndon State College with a bachelor’s degree in atmospheric sciences with a concentration in national weather service/military track.

Local students receive Honors Day prizes

BRUNSWICK — Two local students received academic prizes at Bowdoin College’s annual Honors Day ceremony. Evelyn Dickinson, of Bowdoin, majoring in biology and French, was awarded the Copeland-Gross Biology Prize; and Adam Childs, of South China, majoring in chemistry and physics, was awarded the ACS Maine Award.

Local students named to dean’s list

BOSTON — Three local students received dean’s list recognition for the spring 2014 semester at Wentworth Institute of Technology.

They are Austin Moore, of Gardiner, Maine, Joshua Rice, of Richmond, Maine, and Aaron Gilbert, of South China, Maine.

O’Neill graduates, receives honors

UNITY — Ryan J. O’Neill, son of Colene O’Neill, of West Gardiner, has graduated from Unity College with a bachelor’s degree in parks and forest management.

O’Neill received The Parks and Forest Management Leadership Award and was named to the honors list — high honors for the spring 2014 semester.

NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. — Justin Poirier, of Augusta, Maine, graduated with a master’s in public policy degree at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth.

Maxwell receives dean’s list honors

PEPPER PIKE, Ohio — Sarah Maxwell of Fayette, Maine, a nursing student at Ursuline College, has been named to the fall 2013 semester dean’s list.

The daughter of Marty and Linda Maxwell, she is a 2010 graduate of Maranacook Community High School.

LEWISTON — Mount David Summit, Bates College’s annual campus-wide celebration of student academic achievement, showcased presentations by two local students.

Easton Morang, a music major, delivered a presentation titled, “The Functions of Reference and Cultural Capital in Hip-Hop.” His research was supervised by Dale Chapman, associate professor of music and African American Studies. Morang, son of Mr. and Mrs. Keith E. Morang of Winthrop, is a 2010 graduate of Winthrop High School.

Santina Snow, a biological chemistry major, delivered a presentation titled, “Factors Affecting mRNA Degradation in Borrelia burgdorferi, the Causative Agent of Lyme Disease.” Her research was supervised by Paula Schlax, associate professor of chemistry. Snow, daughter of Dedra M. Snow of Pittston, is a 2010 graduate of Gardiner Area High School.

Lapointe honored at college’s Prize Day

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. — Caelan Lapointe, of Hallowell, Maine, was recently honored at Union College Prize Day.

Lapointe, a member of the class of 2015, was awarded the John S. Hadala (1928) Endowed Book Prize, given to a senior majoring in mechanical engineering.

Richmond’s Dowd receives awards

CASTLETON, Vt. — Eric Dowd of Richmond, Maine, a student at Castleton State College, was recently awarded the Student Life College Service Award and the SGA Good Citizenship Award for the 2013-2014 academic year.

KREA Scholarship recipients announced

AREA — Kennebec Retired Educators Association recently awarded three $500 scholarships. Recipients are Rebecca Reed, of Vassalboro, a graduate of Erskine Academy, with plans to attend the Berklee College of Music in Boston; Mattie E. Lajoie, of Vassalboro, a graduate of Erskine Academy with plans to attend the University of Maine at Farmington; and Jesse Enos, of Messalonskee High School, with plans to attend the University of Maine at Farmington.
