A Belgrade motorcyclist was listed in good condition in Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston on Wednesday with injuries suffered Sunday when the 2004 Harley-Davidson he was riding collided head-on with a Ford Transit delivery truck in Alna.
According to the Lincolin County Sheriff’s Office, Carl Cooke, 55, was not wearing a helmet and sustained head injuries when he was ejected from the motorcycle.
The crash occurred as he was traveling north on Route 218 and approaching the West Alna Road intersection and Steven Frey, 59, of Newcastle, was traveling south.
Investigators said that “as the Cooke vehicle entered a right curve, it crossed into the southbound travel lane and into the path of the Frey vehicle. Frey steered right into an attempt to avoid a collision and both units collided head-on within the southbound travel lane.”
The crash and the reconstruction investigation closed Route 218 for almost three hours.
Cooke was taken by LifeFlight to the Lewiston hospital. Wiscasset Ambulance took Frey and a passenger to Miles Memorial Hospital in Damariscotta for treatment. Officers said the two received minor injuries.
Deputies Mark Bridgham and sergeants Matthew Day and Jason Nein investigated the crash.
Responding to the emergency were members of the Alna and Whitefield fire departments, and Wiscasset Fire & Rescue.
