Regarding the July 16 article about the Oxford County deputies’ picket line for a new contract.

Scott Cole, county administrator, said the majority of the deputies earn more than $17 per hour. He didn’t say almost $18, so I have to assume that the majority earn just a little more than $17 per hour. Maybe Cole should button his shirt, his heart might jump out.

Most people wouldn’t get out of bed, let alone put their life on the line, for $17-something per hour.
