WEARE, N.H. — The New Hampshire woman who obtained a restraining order against Weare’s police chief says he grabbed her cellphone and pushed her several times as she was talking to his wife about the affair she’d had with him.

In a sworn statement filed in Hillsboro District Court Monday, the 40-year-old woman says her brief affair with her boss, Weare Police Chief John Velleca, began in July and has since ended. She says Velleca came to her house Sept. 11 – in uniform and driving a cruiser – and began yelling about conversations she was having with his wife.

Velleca is on leave from the job he took in November to help improve the embattled department’s reputation.

Velleca did not immediately return a message left on his cellphone Tuesday.
