Health centers based in Waterville and Newport are among 14 in the state that will receive $3 million in Affordable Care Act funds to expand their services.
The Department of Health and Human Services grant, provided through the Affordable Care Act, will be used to increase access to comprehensive primary health care services by hiring new staff members, staying open longer and expanding health care services, according to a news release from U.S. Sen. Angus King.
HealthReach Community Health Centers, based in Waterville, includes regional health centers in Belgrade and Kingfield and health centers in Madison, Strong, Bingham, Kingfield, Rangeley and four other locations. It received $261,846 in funding. In Newport, $211,248 was granted to Sebasticook Family Doctors.
The funding is aimed at improving and expanding services at community-based health centers across the state,
Other recipients include Bucksport Regional Health Center, in Bucksport; Eastport Health Care Inc., in Eastport; Fish River Rural Health, in Eagle Lake; Health Access Network, in Lincoln; Islands Community Medical Services Inc., in Vinalhaven; Katahdin Valley Health Center, in Patten; Penobscot Community Health Care, in Bangor; Pines Health Services, in Caribou; Portland Community Health Center, in Portland; Sacopee Valley Health Center, in Porter; St. Croix Regional Family Health Care Center, in Princeton; and York County Community Action Corporation, in Sanford.
