The family of missing Appalachian Trail hiker Geraldine Largay has increased the reward offered for information about her disappearance from $15,000 to $25,000, the Maine Warden Service said in a news release Wednesday.

Largay, 66, of Brentwood, Tenn., who goes by the trail name Inchworm, was last seen early in the morning of July 22, 2013, at Poplar Ridge lean-to in northern Franklin County. In the days immediately after Largay’s disappearance, searchers concentrated their efforts on a 24-mile stretch of the trail from the Poplar lean-to toward Route 27 in Wyman Township.

The AT crosses Route 27 in Wyman Township between the towns of Carrabassett Valley and Stratton.

Largay had planned to hike to the Spaulding lean-to about eight miles to the north in Mount Abram Township, but she never arrived. She was expected to meet up with her husband, George Largay.

The warden service has conducted multiple searches for Largay, including one as recent as Sept. 14, according to the release. That search, in Redington Township, involved game wardens and the Maine Association of Search and Rescue.

“These most recent search efforts concentrated on areas east of Oberton Stream and west of Mount Abram Trail that had not had documented ground search efforts prior,” according to the release. “Searchers are equipped with GPS trackers after receiving assignments, and wardens are then able to document where searching has occurred. This assists wardens greatly in tracking search efforts and aids in determining future search strategies.”

The family is still in contact with Maine Warden Service investigators and is updated routinely about searches and any investigative leads regarding her disappearance.

No clues have been found related to Largay’s whereabouts, the warden service said.

Anyone who has information that could help find Largay or has information about other hikers or other people in the area of the Poplar lean-to or the Oberton Stream area on the Appalachian Trail in July 2013 is asked to call the Maine Warden Service at 624-7076.
