BRUNSWICK — Alex Berluti completed 11 of 15 passes for 187 yards and two scores to lead the Amherst football team a 30-7 win over Bowdoin in a New England Small College Athletic Conference game Saturday. Jackson McGonagle had four catches for 124 yards and a touchdown to lead Amherst (2-0). He also rushed for a 14-yard touchdown.
Bowdoin (0-2) had more first downs (22 to 18) and piled up 319 yards of total offense, but didn’t score until the fourth quarter when quarterback Mac Caputi rushed for a 1-yard touchdown.
Tyler Grant rushed for 86 yards on 25 carries to lead the Polar Bears.
TUFTS 42, BATES 24: Jack Doll completed 29 of 39 passes for 267 and three touchdowns and the Jumbos erased a 17-13 halftime deficit with a big second half to earn the NESCAC victory in Somerville, Mass.
Jack Cooleen had four catches — two for touchdowns — and 46 receiving yards for Tufts (2-0). Chance Brady rushed for 98 yards as well.
Matt Cannone had a big game for Bates (0-2), completing 16 of 22 passes for 182 yards and three touchdowns. Mark Riley had nine catches for 142 yards and a pair of touchdowns for Bates well.
WESTERN NEW ENGLAND 80, MAINE MARITIME 16: The Mariners lost three fumbles, and Western New England piled up 769 yards of total offense to take the New England Football Conference win in Castine.
Western New England (3-0) quarterback Tyler Ward threw for 32 yards and four touchdowns. Six different players ran for a touchdown for the Golden Bears, led by Terrence N’Dabian, who ran for 157 yards and two scores.
Lawrence grad Jake Doolan scored both Mariners (1-2) touchdowns, on a 38-yard run and a 34-yard pass from Michael Fahey.
