Residents in Starks approved raising an additional $11,273 for large item trash pickup, the fire department budget and road repairs during a special town meeting Wednesday night.

Each item on the seven-article warrant passed without any changes, according to First Selectman Paul Frederic. There were about 35 people in attendance.

“It was a good opportunity for citizens to weigh in on things that needed to be addressed that have popped up since town meeting in March,” said Frederic.

In addition to raising the additional $11,273, residents also approved using $7,840 in road repair money left over from another project to make repairs on Mayhew Road and Chicken Street, both of which were damaged during a wind and rain storm in July.

The additional money is expected to have a minimal impact on the town’s tax rate, which officials will set sometime in the next few weeks, said Frederic.
