Eliot Cutler claims to be an independent but I seriously doubt this. Here we have another Democrat masquerading as an independent. Not convinced? His website plans to reform taxes by boosting towns’ state funding by $100 million, increasing education spending by $75 million, spending $10 million for “branding and marketing” Maine and cutting property taxes 20 to 40 percent. If every Maine homeowner receives a property tax cut, how will Cutler make up the millions of dollars lost. Cut services? No. Reduce Maine state employment? No. Export tax burdens? That’s akin to having out-of-state visitors pay more by hiking hotel rates — but many of the people using Maine hotels are Mainers. Economic stimulus? I’ve had enough of that. The only other option is to increase the sales tax. And there you have it — another tax-and-spend Democrat.
