Republican Rep. Larry Dunphy, of Embden said: “If it is economically feasible, if it lowers energy costs… if it’s not doing environmental damage… if it’s not hindering people’s use or enjoyment of their land, then I’m OK with wind.”
Transmission rates went up 19.6 percent for Central Maine Power customers, paying for transmission lines required to move wind power to markets outside of Maine. Wind power exists on federal tax credits that prop it up. It is not economically feasible.
Remote mountaintops are being blasted, clearcut and topped with 400-foot industrial towers, and the power is exported to other states, permanently destroying Maine — for what ?
Communities here have been shouting from the (clearcut) mountaintops that their lifestyle, their livelihood, and yes, the enjoyment of their land, has been taken from them.
Where is Rep. Dunphy getting his information?
