I have served in the Maine Legislature for six years. One of the few times I have actually been disgusted was by Rep. Ann Dorney, D-Norridgewock, and her ongoing disrespect for current service members and veterans. One example — on the House floor she stated that military members in uniform would be too intimidating to high school students.
One reason this gets under my skin is because she represents the community my family comes from — Madison, whose local VFW (The Harvell/Bishop VFW) is named for my great uncle, Edward Harvell, who was killed in the Battle of the Bulge.
We live in a democracy and Dorney has every right to her opinions. I would never dispute that or take away her right of freedom of expression. But I have a right to be disgusted by her lack of proper respect and appreciation of our military members, past and present.
Rep. Lance Harvell
R-Farmington
