I am a Navy veteran, I’m unemployed, and was on MaineCare. MaineCare paid for my heart medications from a heart attack. In the middle of December 2013 I received a letter stating that I would lose my MaineCare on Dec. 31, 2013. On Feb. 26, I had a major heart attack with two blocked arteries, because I had run out of the medication I needed and couldn’t afford to buy it on my own.
Now my medical bills are almost $95,000, which I can never repay. State Sen. Colleen Lachowicz, D-Waterville, heard my story and pleaded on the State House floor to expand Medicaid to the 70,000 who had been cut. Colleen helped me get the care I needed. I am very proud to call her my friend and senator. Colleen will always get my vote because she really cares for all the people of Maine.
