Most people agree that Maine’s welfare system is being abused and that we need to implement some new rules to ensure taxpayer-funded benefits are going to the people who truly need them.
I’m supporting state Rep. Matt Pouliot, R-Augusta, because he gets it while many politicians are out of touch. Pouliot voted in favor of bills that would require able-bodied adults to apply for at least three jobs before receiving welfare benefits, close commonly-abused loopholes in the work search requirement, and prohibit welfare dollars from being spent on tobacco, alcohol, lottery tickets and bail.
The system needs reform and Matt Pouliot understands that by addressing fraud and misuse, we strengthen welfare for the elderly, disabled, children, and others who need to use it in good faith.
