I write to refresh the recollections of our residents and elected representatives about Pay As You Throw. At the City Council meeting on June 3, numerous opponents of PAYT, including myself and at least two residents on fixed incomes, specifically, but quite politely, said that we would prefer a tax increase to a per-bag fee, since a tax increase would be more honest and would actually be cheaper for most households.

I was appalled by the dismissive manner in which Erik Thomas treated questions in June. His mischaracterization of opposition to PAYT in the Oct. 21 Morning Sentinel shows why we need to change our city government.
