The old adage, “It takes a village to raise a child” is one I live every day as a parent and teacher.

Children need schools in which they can be challenged academically in a safe, stimulating environment. Dedicated, hardworking teachers need a livable wage and a voice in their profession so they can meet their students’ needs. Hard-working parents need safe neighborhoods and wages that keep their families out of poverty.

The candidate that I believe supports this vision is Monica Castellanos, Democratic candidate for House District 86. She supports a minimum wage increase so families don’t have to work hard and still be poor. She supports giving teachers a voice and making sure public schools have the resources they need to be innovative. She will not send public money to virtual charter schools. As a small business owner, she understands how to encourage business growth.
