I am writing in regards to the Augusta mayoral race. I have known Bill Dowling for several years as not only a community leader, but also, most recently, as my neighbor. As a lifelong resident of Augusta, I have benefited from Dowling’s leadership in the community. I have observed his leadership skills as part of our neighborhood association and would fully endorse his being elected again as mayor of the city of Augusta.
In regards to Dowling’s employment, I would say that his professional experiences would benefit the city of Augusta. Conflicts of interest or the appearance thereof do not come solely from a person’s employment, but from their conduct. As Dowling worked for his present employer when he was last mayor and there were no issues of conflicts of interest at that time, it stands to reason that there would be no issue.
