Two Waterville women were being sought Wednesday in connection with a stabbing in China that left a third Waterville woman in critical condition in an Augusta hospital.
Maine State Police began searching for Carissa Butkewicz, 23, and Tiffany Glidden, 20, who a police spokesman said are “persons of interest” in the investigation.
Kathryn Hopkins, a 24-year-old Waterville woman identified by state police spokesman Steve McCausland, was listed in critical but stable condition at MaineGeneral Hospital in Augusta with stab wounds, police said.
“We won’t know the complete story of what transpired until we find these two women and can get their side of the story,” McCausland said in a phone interview. Hopkins was stabbed while sitting in a vehicle on Neck Road in China around 6:45 p.m. Tuesday, McCausland said.
The exact location of the stabbing and the events leading up to it are not clear, he said, adding that he didn’t know what weapon was involved.
Police asked that anyone with information on the whereabouts of Butkewicz or Glidden to call state police in Augusta at 624-7076, or 911.
