Area law enforcement officers are hunting for a man who attempted to rob a Cumberland Farms convenience store in Fairfield early Friday morning.
Police have released surveillance images of the man who they said attempted the robbery at 205 Main St.

The would-be robber gestured to a clerk that he had a weapon and demanded money from the cash register at 1:54 a.m., police said.
He fled, though, when interrupted by a customer, making away with only a pack of cigarettes, said Sgt. Paul St. Amand.
The clerk, a woman, was the only person in the store at the time, and was not injured and the customer was not aware a robbery was occurring when he entered the store, according to police.
St. Amand described the would-be robber as possibly Hispanic, about six feet tall with a goatee. Police were still searching for the man.
Contrary to reports that the attempted robber escaped in a blue pickup truck driven by another man, St. Amand said police believe he left on foot.
Oakland and Waterville police, as well as the Somerset County Sheriff’s Office and a dog tracking unit from the Maine State Police responded to the robbery attempt.
